HOW DOES THE LATEST ALERTS BOX WORK?
The Alert Box in the left hand menu is both an automated and manually controlled area where alerts of interest appear. See the descriptions below on what the alert icons mean.

The Earthquake Alert displays when a 4.0 or greater earthquake has occured in Southern California or a 3.0 or greater in the San Bernardino Mountains. You can click on this image in the ALERTS box to be taken to the details of the earthquake which triggered this alert. This is a fully automated system which updates every 10 minutes.

The Weather Alert displays when there has been a watch or warning issued by the National Weather Service out of San Diego. This alert is currently covering the San Bernardino Mountains only. You can click on this icon to be taken to the current watches and warnings from the National Weather Service. This is a fully automated system which updates every 10 minutes.

The Incident alert is currently triggered by Socalmountains.com staff and reporters. If you see this icon in the LATEST ALERTS box, you can click on it to be taken to detailed information on the current incident. Incident alerts can be major fires, major accidents, or anything else of significance occuring in Southern California.

The Scanner Alert means that there are an unusually high number of people listening to the live Big Bear Scanner. This usually means something big is going on. Clicking on this alert Icon will bring up the Big Bear Live Scanner in a new window. This is an automated alert updated every 10 minutes.

The Road Alert means that one of the major roads leading into the San Bernardino Mountains has been impacted by a closure, chain requirements, or other incident. Clicking on this alert icon takes you to the details of the situation. This is an automated alert updated every 10 minutes.

The announcement alert is currently triggered by Socalmountains.com staff. If you see this icon in the LATEST ALERTS box, you can click on it to read the announcement. Announcements are typically related to Socalmountains.com planned outages, major updates, and other important info regarding this web site.

The Chat Alert means there are 3 or more people in Live Chat. If you would like to join the chat, simply click on this alert icon. This is an automated alert updated every 10 minutes.
